Welcome back to my 10 Ways To Make Your Home Magazine Worthy. Number 9 might make you flinch, but it’s well worth consideration! I’m talking about ceilings. I have a plan. Someday, I’m going to get new flooring….hey a diva can dream! When I’m ready, I’m going to move all the furniture one room at a time into my garage and scrape off the gawd awful popcorn from my ceilings before the flooring is installed. Never waste an opportunity to remove that freakin popcorn crap is my motto!
After it’s gone, the ceiling decorating world is my oyster! We’ve already tackled the kitchen by putting up beadboard and false beams, but what about the rest of the house? Ohhhh, the options! Let’s take a look…..
What DoYour Ceilings Say?
Bare with me as I gripe again about my popcorn ceilings. I truly hate them. And luckily for me, they have never been painted! That makes it sooooo much easier to remove. A little fabric softener and water in a spray bottle, and it’s all muscle. Well, there’s the huge mess left behind, so I have two words for you…..drop cloth. You really don’t want to forget the drop cloth. If you’re going to do this yourself, you’ll thank me later.
If you’ve already removed your popcorn crapola or you never had it in the first place, I’m going to take a minute to be a hater. Okay, I feel better, and you’re ready to explore new ceiling worlds! However, if you love your popcorn, I’m not going to be able to relate to you at all and none of the awesome upgrade examples are going to interest you, so I’ll see you next week for #8. The rest of you follow me!
Small Changes – Big Impact
A little trim can go a long way! There are so many ways you can decorate your ceilings, from adding trim pieces in a gorgeous pattern to adding beadboard or even laminate! What about tiles of tin or plastic? Look at your ceiling with an open mind. All of these things that I’ve mentioned can be found at Habitat For Humanity ReStore. Also, check with Facebook Marketplace! But what about paint?!!???!
Like Jewelry For Your Home
Decorating your ceiling isn’t a must, it’s not even a glimmer of a thought for most people. But, when done well it can be like adding the perfect piece of jewelry to a rockin outfit. Sometimes a gorgeous ceiling even in an empty room screams elegance and refinement. You can even achieve this feeling with some paint.
While researching this option, I have decided that I really like white walls with this look. What do you think? I’m really in love with the paint option. So much class for so little investment!
And There’s More!
Almost anything you think of to do to your walls you can do to your ceilings. Even Wallpaper. This beautiful example on Eclectric Charleston‘s Instagram page just blows me away!
And look at the beautiful examples of ceilings on Domino like this one below.
Oh yes, I will definitely be doing something in the future with my ceilings. And I thought that I had settled on painting them until I saw this post on Hometalk. They freakin make Polystyrene ceiling tiles!
AND you can put them right over popcorn. I feel a little light headed. Don’t you just love our modern times? Taking something like my Sonic Route 44 cup and turning it into ceiling tiles. I can stand below that!
