In my 3 years on Facebook and the little over a year on this blog, I’ve been asked a lot of questions. I really enjoy getting questions! I’ve added some past questions to some I requested on Facebook and I’m going to tell you what I think. They may not be the answers you’re looking for, but they are my honest response.
Do You Really Make Your Bed Everyday & Why?
Yes! Well, most days anyway. There is the occasional, “OMG I’m late for work” early morning exercise routine of running and jumping that takes up all my time. But on average yes I do. Why? Because it’s a habit that only takes 5 minutes. I love knowing my room looks beautiful when I walk out of it and then back into it later. It starts the day with an accomplishment, and there’s nothing more satisfying to me at the end of my busy day than getting into a freshly made bed. Making my bed isn’t about the bed or being over the top organized, it’s about me. I make the bed because it makes me happy.
Why Do You Junk For Your Home Decor
I LOVE this question! It gives me a stage to convince to join me in my favorite hobby. I don’t look at Junkin as a last resort, or as a sign of extreme poverty. Junkin has moved well beyond milk crate coffee tables in your dorm room, although those are very chic right now and proves I was a Decorating Diva even then. Junkin makes my soul happy and puts a personal stamp on my home decor. Yes, I’m on an extremely tight budget and I want to be able to have the home style that I want and Junkin gives me that, but it’s about the junk. This stuff has elegance, history….a soul if you will. I think I can best answer this question with a video…..
This is why I junk. You can’t find this stuff in Target, imitations maybe but not the history. And that to me is priceless.
How Do I Start A Big Organizing Task
The actual question was this; when facing a really big organizing task, like say, a storage unit, how do you begin? What motivates you to keep going? Do you have a plan to follow?
Are you ready? I like organizing, I don’t have to motivate myself so I don’t know how much help I can be since I’m not wearing your shoes. This is a hard question for me to answer because it’s not a problem I have, and I don’t feel your anxiety, but for what it’s worth, here’s my hard-ball advice. Just start…..anywhere, but get started. It’s not going to organize itself, nor are cute little chipmunks and blue birds going to come singing out of the woods to do it for you. Disney really needs to answer for many a procrastinator’s unrealized back up plans.
Open the doors and start pulling stuff out and organize it into categories of; keep, sale, donate, recycle or trash. Keep imagining the awesomeness that awaits you when you’re done and keep going. Then set up a system of shelves and containers (if needed) and organize what remains into categories and put it away. THEN take lots of pics, and post them on Facebook to brag about conquering your stuff! You are master of your organized universe….you rocked it!
As for motivation? People have storage rooms for many reasons, a temporary place to put stuff while in between homes, and long term reasons. If your storage unit is used for stock, well that’s money. You need to know what’s in there, where it is and be able to put your hands on it quickly or you’re not making money, you’re loosing it.
If it’s just full of stuff that you just can’t seem to let go of, you might need someone to help you clear it out who isn’t also personally attached to it. It’s hard to let go, but if it’s causing you stress, your motivation can be the lightness you’ll feel when letting go of the tonnage that’s weighing you down. Easier said than done I know, but that is my best answer.
What Do You See As The Next Trend In Home Decor
Good Question! My answer is simple and honest at least. I don’t care. I follow my own star, I buy what speaks to me, makes me happy or sets my heart on fire. Sure, some of the things that I have in my home are trendy, some are not and some would make an 1890’s interior designer of a French house of ill-repute shudder at it’s ostentation. That’s Faded Bluebird! And I hope that if I do nothing else with this blog, I inspire people to find their own style and live their own dreams!
But if you’re asking because you deal with vintage sales, I’ll give you my prediction. I predict that Farmhouse will stay but a little edgier with more industrial rust thrown in with blues, grays and yellows. I predict that a clean simplified Mid Century Modern look with bold colors will be popular. I also predict that you will be seeing a lot more mixed styles as people start to decorate with an individual flair.
When the economy is what it currently is, people tend to stay home more, and the home again becomes the central axis of their lives, they need a safe haven and to be able to surround themselves with comfort and happiness. The home will be important in 2017 as people tighten their budgets and close the hatches.
The more important question to me is what do YOU see as the next trend you want to follow?
I’m going to have to break this post up into a 3 part series as I’ve received so many great questions! I hope you enjoyed these and come back to read the rest. And if you have a question, please feel free comment or check out my Contact Me page!
