On my Facebook page, I recently asked my followers to predict decorating fads for 2016. I asked them which of the following decorating elements: large wall letters, deer heads, turquoise, chevron, and burlap were on their way out and which they thought would stay around. And the results were highly entertaining.
What I meant by the question was this, which ones will return to Target’s aisles, Junk Shows, and On-line stores. And which ones will slowly disappear as popular Pinterest Pins? Well, the results were varied and fascinating too. Some thought that Turquoise’s scheduled flight into decor’s Black Hole is way overdue. Others thought it was the only color worth having, and so on for every element. The Chevron thing almost become a riot.
Well, the results were varied and somewhat defensive too. Some thought that Turquoise’s scheduled flight into decor’s Black Hole is way overdue. Others thought it was the only color worth having, and so on for every element. The Chevron thing almost become a riot. And the burlap people might need to get out more. They were very touchy about their favorite to go fabric.
Decorating Fads – My Prediction
What did I think? Well, I choose those five because I believe that they will lose popularity in the majority of homes in America. Do I believe that they will totally disappear? NO, because there’s not a design element that ever totally disappears unless we’re talking about hand grenade table lamps. Wait. That lamp probably has it’s own Facebook Group, so don’t count it out yet either.
But isn’t that the beauty of your style? The stuff you love will come and go out of “general frenzy, ” and when it’s back in, you were on the cutting edge. And when it goes back out, well……you’ve increased your chances of finding it at garage sales again…..BONUS!
My point is to surround yourself with what you love without paying attention to those “decorating fads” going on around you. When something I collect, love or want is in again, I can’t find it at garage sales or thrift stores anymore. I really hate that! But I do get to immediately point out to my friends that I have been doing that for years, so……MEGA BONUS!!
What I can predict with 100% accuracy is what decorating fads will be popular in the Faded Bluebird Style. Lavenders and smoky purple grays teamed up with white, creams, soft faded mint greens, and pops of goldenrod yellows. My psychic abilities tell me it’s about wrought iron light fixtures, vintage pecan stained pieces, and old school bells. I would bet all the money in my wallet, all $2.16 of it that these are the elements that will be all the rage in 2016 for Faded Bluebird! Trust me, I have a good source!
