I just spent the last glorious week on Staycation! A wonderful vacation at home that helped me get caught up on so many things. I spent tons of time with my family, went on a 4 day Citywide Garage Sale Junkin Weekend in my hometown of Moore, Oklahoma and worked on projects like the end of time was coming. And it almost did as I also spent some time in a storm shelter……twice in one week. It was a slow political week and we had to do something to remind the rest of the country that Oklahoma isn’t for the faint of heart.
I worked so hard you’d think that I would be looking forward to going back to work, and although I love my job as an environmentalist, I will miss being able to putter around the house in my sweat pants and T-shirts creating chaos. Look at some of the junk I found and the projects I did get finished.
I know that I’ve shown you my new coffee table earlier this week, but I’m still in total love! I also built a stand for my suitcases, and I attempted to recreate a rusty chippy looking cast iron bunny out of a new one.
I found new purple pillows for my gold sofa. I love purple and I’ve declared it the Faded Bluebird Color of 2o16.
If you follow me on Facebook, you know that I like a bit of whimsy on occasion, that’s why my birds are sporting pearls and a pink onyx choker. I love vintage jewelry, but I’m not much of a girly girl when it comes to my wardrobe, I can’t see it blending well with the pond scum and mud that I’m frequently wearing at the end of my work day.
Ohhhh, and I truly love being able to show off my silver punch bowl whenever I can! This was a Christmas gift from my husband that he didn’t know he’d bought until I showed him. We were totally amazed at his great taste!
And finally, I scored really big on Big Trash Day in a neighboring town. If your community doesn’t have Big Trash Day…..well, I’d move. But for those of you who are denied this junkin jackpot let me explain. People put the big stuff that won’t fit in their trash cans on the curb once a year for the City to pick up…..yeah, it’s intended for the Dump but I’m here to liberate it! It’s part of my environmental nature. Am I embarrassed to dig through someone else’s trash? HELL NO! I am constantly amazed at what is put on the curb for trash pick up. I found one of my favorite furniture pieces on the curb. This week I picked up fence slats that I used to make my new coffee table, wine barrel rings, cabinet doors, a mirror that will go into my new bathroom make over, a blue stool, a ton of paint supplies and equipment, 4 corbels, and two matching wrought iron bistro chairs. All FREE, that is worth some ripped pants and a torn nail or two. And just a 411, if you go curbside shopping, please remember that you are still on someone’s property, be courteous and don’t leave their piles strewn all over the yard when you’re finished. Put it back into a neat pile and the Junkin Goddess will continue to smile on you.
It was a great week and next week will be even better. Next week is my favorite junk show of all times, The Old Chicken Farm Show. Over 500 junk vendors in one place and I know quite a few of them. It’s Junkicious fun followed by Mother’s Day where I fully expect to be pampered and taken on a road trip. I can’t wait to share the pics that I will take this weekend.
But until then, I’ll wrap up this week with a couple more projects like turning another of those free cabinet doors into a chalkboard. I promised a friend I would make her one after she saw mine, and OH!!! We have a winner for my Spring Cleaning Fling Giveaway! Carolsue Anderson from California will be receiving a package from me very soon! I’m excited! I’ve never shipped anything to California before, I’ve never been there and as far as I know I’ve never even spoke to anyone who lives there. I want to thank everyone who entered my Giveway and for sharing my blog. I get excited each time someone leaves me a comment and let’s me know that I’m not just talking to myself here. I hope the rest of your weekend is productive and fun and check back with me next weekend as I show off my Old Chicken Farm Show finds!
