Purge Party! And You’re Invited To Attend

January 9, 2017 8 Comments

It’s 2017!  Wake up and smell the New Year.  Go ahead, take in a deep breath….you might need it.  Purging isn’t for the faint of heart, just remember to breath in through your nose, and out through your mouth. Repeat and you’ll be okay.

Purging begins when I rearrange furniture after the Christmas. It’s the perfect time for me to do it as half my house is in the garage because of the amount of holiday stuff I put up.  But the fact that I have over 10 Christmas trees isn’t today’s therapy topic.  PURGING is.

So far I’ve only hit 3 rooms, but I’ve managed to make over $300 selling unwanted decor!  The rooms feel lighter, fresher and cleaner, and so do I!  It’s a great way to start a brand new year.  And I wanted to share this feeling of a lighter, possible tycoonism with you!

Purge Party Like It’s 2017

I know some of you want to jump right into organizing. But before you can run, you’ve got to spend some time on your hands and knees cleaning out the storage containers under your bed. In order to organize, you must purge! Ok…..so that’s not entirely true, but if you want to organize with a better chance of staying organized, purging is the way to start.  Let’s get going!

purge primer

Ta Da!!  It’s your very own Purge Primer!  Start small and just spend a few minutes a day. Pick one room, then choose the easiest category listed in that room, like your makeup drawer. Ask yourself the questions, and if your answer is NO to any of them, it might be time to let that 15 year old chapstick go into the light.  It’s okay to let it go, my petrified Bonnie Bell Lip Smackers will be there to meet it and show it the way.

You’ll want to separate your purged items into 4 containers in these categories; donate, recycle, trash and my personal favorite…sell! As soon as you’ve finished purging, try to deal with the contents of the containers ASAP before you feel the urge to start pulling stuff out again.  Or before your husband discovers you completed a successful sneak attack against his favorite jockeys. Time is of the essence!

Party Hardy Y’all

That’s it!!!  You’re doing it!  Before you know it, you will be ready to organize the areas that need it. You will be master or mistress of your personal universe! This is weight loss that can pay you back with some heavy dough!  Sell the things you don’t want anymore! Let some other energetic soul with some spray paint and a plan worry about your unwanted stuff.  Your stuff gets some lovin and you get to loose some of those unsightly decor pounds.  Win/Win!

Every Monday this month I will be posting some purge tips on my Facebook page, and if you want or need to connect with people who are doing this together, join my group page Faded Bluebird Fan Tales.   If you need any helpful ideas, tips or inspiration, check out my posts with the Organization tags.  You’ve got this, and I’ve got your back while you’re doing it!

Happy Stuff Purging!

LOVE the Primer ! I have printed it out and am going to stick it on my Fridge to keep as a “reminder” of sorts. When reading other post from different places it can be a little overwhelming but I just love this layout and how its small but covers alot of ground. Thank you !

I am a huge fan of downsizing. I’ve been reading all about minimalism lately. We are moving and it is inspiring me to get rid of a lot of stuff I know I don’t need or even want. This post is another notch in my encouragement. Thank you!

Thank you for your comment! It seems a lot of people are downsizing right now, I know that I’ve downsized a lot of my home decor. It feels so much lighter and fresher. Good luck with your move!

Thanks for the encouragement!! 🙂 I really like the way you have the purge primer layed out. I am excited to get started with a whole house purge this year!! I am going to start with our living room area by getting new furniture that fits the space and work my way to the den. Our twins just graduated college so there is still a lot of extra stuff we are holding onto from that. It is fixing to GO AWAY!! I am ready to enjoy the empty nest syndrome!!
