Sometimes I buy things at Salvation Army that I have no idea what I’m going to do with it. And sometimes friends give me things and say….do something with this.
……..so I did! She found a cheap fold-able wine rack during half off Wednesdays at Salvation Army, you see them all the time at thrift stores. What she saw as a $1.50 wine rack, I saw as the solution to a problem that I had.
I wanted some kind of display for flowers in bottles. and she brought me a treasure and didn’t even know it! Since yesterday was Project Day for me, I created several pieces including this one.
I gave it a quick paint job, white of course. Then simply cut some lattice slats to fit, stained them a gorgeous golden oak and nail gunned them into place.
I really couldn’t be happier with the way that it turned out, except on the next one, I think I will add some upholstery tacks in place of the original tacks that covered the joins. Yeah, I’m not giving this one back, LOL! I’m going to have to make another one and give it to her as a gift for giving me some great inspiration and to stop her begging via text messages.
This piece will handle up to 7 bottles! And don’t you just love those Big Lots bottles!! Since I already had the stain and paint I don’t count that in my grand total, so with the lattice slats and the wine rack, this project cost me a grand total of $7 and a couple of hours of my time. Beat that!
When you’re out thrifting, keep an open mind or tons of inspiration pics on your cell phone. Look at things for what they could be, not what they are and you can decorate your home on less than a dime!
Happy Project Day!
