Doors – Your Entry Into Magazine Worthiness

August 10, 2017 0 Comments

Ready for #7?  It’s Doors! It’s instant gratification for a little investment.  Changing out a door, or knob or even just adding a little door bling can modify the look of a room.  And sometimes, on occasion adding a new door where one didn’t exist can do the same thing.  Case in point, adding a sliding barn door to your master bathroom entrance or kitchen.  Let’s take a look at some ideas for inspiration!

Knock, Knock Inspiration is at the door

There are so many wonderful blogs out there to show you step by step how to turn an ugly core door into something fabulous for under $20.  So, I’m not going to reinvent the wheel.  Visit their blogs!  Just look what you can do, those doors from Thrifty Artsy Girl, Remodelaholic, and The Lucky Homestead look expensive. That’s why I’m a major fan of trim! I get mine at a major discount shopping at Habitat For Humanity ReStores, and if you have one in your area, you need to go!

Door Knobs With A Twist

Having a beautiful door can just be a spray paint bottle away.  Those brassy looking knobs can be sleek and stylish with a little black spray paint.  Or maybe nickel?  Rubber Bronze? Whatever color, just go for it.  Black door knobs seem to be all the rage right now, and I just replaced 3 of my knobs in my laundry/kitchen area. The black against my white paneled doors looks divine.  SERIOUSLY, I’m not exaggerating…..much. But if you’re looking for something new, keep your eyes open at flea markets and junk shows for vintage glass or metal knobs.  Or again, visit a ReStore.

And don’t you just love a good door plate as shown in #6 (yes, I know it says #3, just go with it) by Young House Love.  There is something about a door plate that grabs my heart and holds on. And speaking of door knob bling, what do you think about a creative alternative?  Paint a door plate!

Final Thoughts

I have to work with what the builders of the 80’s gave me.  My husband won’t give me the money to run around replacing everything that bothers me. And I love getting creative and having projects.  But I swear, if I could be in a room alone with those guys, the record for most felonies committed in 15 minutes would be history.  Our dull, stained hollow cored doors were the first to bite the dust when we moved into our current home.  But the door knobs are currently being updated with some spray paint.

Take a look at your doors and imagine how beautiful they could look with some cheap plywood! And if you’re interested in my thoughts on front doors, check out Elements of A Beautiful Front Door.

Happy Decorating!
